Dosage Guidelines
Before commencing treatment in women the levels of estradiol, progesterone, free and total testosterone, DHEA-sulfate, and FSH need to be determined to obtain a baseline. It is also a good idea to check cholesterol and TSH levels so that these can also be compared in the future. By combining this data with the patient condition, a starting formula is derived. As the optimal ratio of hormones and absorption rates will vary from person to person, this initial formula may need to be modified as treatment progresses.
Note that if a patient has taken synthetic HRT in the last four weeks, then blood results may be invalid. In this case stop synthetic HRT for 4 weeks; or start treatment based on symptoms alone.
For men, initial levels of both free and total Testosterone, DHEA, E2, Progesterone and PSA in blood are required to produce a base line. In addition a check of the prostate, cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL and HDL levels are recommended.
