Magic or miracle mouthwash is a solution used to treat mouth ulcers/sores (oral mucositis) caused by some forms of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Ingredients

Magic mouthwash usually contains these basic ingredients:

• An antibiotic (e.g. Tetracycline) to eliminate the infection
• An antihistamine (i.e DiphenhydramineHCl) to reduce inflammation, pain and discomfort
• An antifungal (i.e Nystatin) to reduce fungal growth
• A corticosteroid (i.e Hydrocortoisone) to treat inflammation

Dosage

It is recommended to use magic mouthwash every four to six hours. The solution must be held in your mouth for one to two minutes before being either spit out or swallowed.
